HD Plasma Cutting

The basis of any Plasma cutting process is the increased heat (energy) to cause the “ionization” of gas. This ionized gas with its electrical conductivity properties, allows the cutting process.

Ionization of the gases generates an equal number of free electrons and positive ions and is thus electrically neutral. When this process takes place, the gas acts as an electrical conductor and is capable of transporting the current.

Plasma cutting is a process which uses a calibrated torch to constrict the ionized gas which is produced at very high temperatures, in order to control it and to use it to melt and cut conductive metals.

In all plasma cutting systems the arc energy density is determined by the torch, and more specifically by the relation between the flow crossing the nozzle orifice and the cutting current. In conventional machines this density is between 15 and 25 Amp/mm2, as opposed to the high definition system of between 65 and 90 Amp/mm2.
